  • Cycling England - a new national body which co-ordinates the development of cycling across England. Their aim is to encourage more people to cycle more safely and more often.
  • CfIT - Commission for Integrated Transport
  • Greenways a Countyside Agency initiative which aims to give better mobility and access for people on foot, bike or horseback or for people with disabilities. Greenways are designed for shared use and largely exclude motorised vehicles. They are in and around towns, cities and the countryside. The Mersey Forest is one of eight demonstration projects.

  • Sustrans "sustainable transport" - is a charity working on practical projects such as the national cycle network and safe routes to schools to encourage people to walk and cycle more, so as to help reduce motor traffic and its adverse effects.
  • British Cycling - is the internationally recognised governing body of cycle sport in the UK
  • ETA - The Environmental Transport Association is the environmental alternative to the RAC and AA. It offers a national breakdown service and campaigns for a sound and sustainable transport system for Britain.

  • Designing for Cyclists - The Camden Cycling Campaign has produced a series of outline designs for schemes along the London Cycle Network to negotiate difficult junctions in Camden. The aims with these schemes are to provide practical design solutions, which try to find a balance between high-cost and over-engineered solutions, and the current standards which are often low cost and fail to offer adequate safety or attractiveness for cyclists.
